Rescue 1 our Jetski & rescue sled will be back on the water this evening after having her annual checks and service by Alan & the team at Jet Shed. Safety of our swimmers is always our top priority and having the right equipment to reach a swimmer in distress and recover them to shore for treatment by our qualified & experienced crew is essential. Something different at the lagoon this weekend. You may not know but Coach Morg is also a qualified bushcraft & survival instructor and this weekend members of the British Army’s Royal Army Medical Corps came along to tap into his lifetime of experience in the great outdoors. Activities included lighting fires with modern and primitive survival techniques and also deer butchery (deer was humanely ðhically sourced) with the soldiers also cooking some up to sample this extremely nutritionally dense food at its freshest. As the sun set last night over the lagoon it was time for our crew to reflect and debrief on the evenings events. Apart from the pesky kids sneaking in and jumping in the far end of the lake some of you may have seen that one swimmer required rescuing, medical attention from our team and ultimately an ambulance. We are pleased to say that the swimmer is ok and now out of hospital but undergoing further investigation into what caused this experienced open water swimmer to have a medical emergency whilst swimming despite generally being fit and healthy. It’s shows the importance of not only getting a regular MOT from your doctor but also how anyone can have an issue in the open water irrespective of fitness & experience, showing the importance of having a trained and qualified rescue team on hand to deal with any issues. Our team were able to identify the swimmer struggling before they even asked for assistance, and were ready to intervene and extract from the water. They were also able to assess the swimmer, identify a need for an ambulance early on and also provide oxygen until the ambulance arrived (50 mins after the call). Whilst incidents like this are rare we ask that everyone review their medical information on their @evolveendurance account and update any new medical conditions and also amend any updates of address or emergency contact details. Big thank you to our crew for the work they did to keep things safe as we dealt with the incident and also the other swimmers who offered assistance. Stay safe x @rlssuk @redpaddleco

To raise funds to support the Tadcaster Community Pool Trust we are organising an all night swim! You can do as much or as little as you wish! The aim is for us all to do as much meterage as we can and see in theory how far from Tadcaster we can get? In the process we hope to raise enough money to cover the pool electric & gas bill for one calendar month! The pool is an independent charity that receives no funding support from the local authority. The recent fuel price increases have put the pools future at risk. We want to do anything we can to help!

Hi Everyone, please note that after Martin’s Funeral Tuesday 4th of July Sharon has quite rightly decided to take some time out and asked us not to operate our midweek sessions for a couple of weeks. This means there will be no Wednesday evening swim on 5th & 12th of July. To minimise disruption to all site operators Sharon has kindly said we can still operate our weekend sessions as normal. As I’m sure you agree we totally respect Sharon’s decision at this difficult time and we continue send our love and support to her and Martin’s family.

To raise funds to support the Tadcaster Community Pool Trust we are organising an all night swim! You can do as much or as little as you wish! The aim is for us all to do as much meterage as we can and see in theory how far from Tadcaster we can get? In the process we hope to raise enough money to cover the pool electric & gas bill for one calendar month! The pool is an independent charity that receives no funding support from the local authority. The recent fuel price increases have put the pools future at risk. We want to do anything we can to help!

They operate to exceed to the @rlssuk guidelines in everything they do thanks to the training provided by our RLSS qualified staff. They train in a range of skills from acting as a support paddler through to administering life saving first aid and also operating our powered rescue craft. They are such a wonderful group of humans who take pride in providing the safest open water swimming sessions you can find. At 07:49am tomorrow morning the earth will be upright on its axis in relation to the sun therefore marking the point where autumn begins in the Northern hemisphere and spring starts in the southern hemisphere. Hi Everyone, please note that after Martin’s Funeral Tuesday 4th of July Sharon has quite rightly decided to take some time out and asked us not to operate our midweek sessions for a couple of weeks. This means there will be no Wednesday evening swim on 5th & 12th of July. To minimise disruption to all site operators Sharon has kindly said we can still operate our weekend sessions as normal. As I’m sure you agree we totally respect Sharon’s decision at this difficult time and we continue send our love and support to her and Martin’s family.

To avoid the traffic on the A1 this evening here’s a cheeky work around if you are coming via the North/West via m62 or A1.
1. Follow the signs for Ferrybridge Services and exit for the services.
2. Follow the signs for the A1 South via the old A1 which is now the A162.
3. Stay in the left hand lane as this turns into the Darrington turn off slip road (near Ripon Farm Services). There may be a bit of traffic waiting to join the A1.
Once off the slip road follow the signs for Womersley.
If you are coming North up the A1 your satnav should bring you off at Barnsdale Bar junction and take you across country via Little Smeaton to Womersley.

Our Rescue Jetski is back from her annual service thanks to Alan & team at Jetshed.com. Swimmer safety is always our No.1 priority so making sure our equipment is in tip top condition should the need arise is essential.
